The city of Abruzzo is in central, southern Italy, about 50 miles from Rome. Its landscape is mainly wild and mountainous, making for great scenery for locals and tourists alike. It lies between the Apennines Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, making for fertile and versatile land. There are countless experiences to be shared such as: ski slopes, beaches, nature parks, castles, art towns, medieval villages and museums.
In the early 1900’s, the Carlino family crossed the seas to America, bringing with them their Olde World recipes. Pasquale and Mama Angela Carlino opened their first family store in 1983 in the little suburb of Ardmore, Pennsylvania. The store featured pastas, sauces, and fresh pastries, all from the recipes cultivated in their original home of Abruzzo. Our family invites you to celebrate with us the art of cooking, the joy of family and the value of tradition…from our kitchen to yours.
A somewhat new tradition at Carlino’s is the “Back to Abruzzo Tour.” This is a family guided trip through various parts of the city. The tour highlights cultural favorites such as cheese and wine making and tasting. Tourists also visit the Carlino owned olive groves in the small town of Casoli where we grow ingredients used in our award-winning olive oils and balsamics. Here, we are also welcomed by extended members of the Carlino family, into their homes for a authentic cooking classes and homemade meals. Of course, we have to visit tourists favorites such as chapels, museums, and restaurants. The trip is quaint and limited to only a few guests. This trip gives guests the opportunity to discover parts of Italy that are often overlooked. Become a part of the family tradition today by visiting our website where you can uncover complete information regarding the tour. This may be your only chance to tour the medieval, historic, and versatile lands of Abruzzo. See you there!
