Castelli, Abruzzo, Italy. This quaint town is best known for its maiolicas, a form of decorative ceramics that were collected by the nobility of Europe for centuries and are still produced today by local artisans.

The hills of Castelli. On our way to a ceramics museum to view the maiolicas.

Panoramic view of Castelli… Absolutely breathe-taking.

The first of many delicious meals. As far as cusine is concerned, Castelli is known for its mushroom. These mushrooms are grown only in this particular area because of the altitude and the climate, that’s what makes them so delicious!

The beginning of our wine sampling— Abruzzo is also known for its Montepulciano d’ Abruzzo wines.

Nighttime view of our hotel, a Medieval castle located in Abruzzo.

The hotel staff prepared a fabulous dinner for us on our first night at the castle.

On our way up to visit Civitella del Tronto, a castle that appears like a warrior standing between the sea and the mountains.

This fortress was built by the Spanish and is one of the largest fortifications in all of Europe.

We enjoyed a walking tour of this remarkable fortress… The views were breathe-taking.

View from the fortress

After the fortress, we headed to our seaside pizzeria in Alba Adriatica.

Chef Massimo, Mama Carlino’s cousin, treated us to the most delicious pizza
