Across the Board: Favorite Fall Fromage

October 31, 2019 0 Comments

In the heat of the summer there were customers who declined cheese samples saying, “It’s too hot for cheese.” Personally, I don’t think it’s ever too anything for cheese, but I can agree that as we start hunkering down in the cooler weather, our cheese cravings can change. I asked around the store, and here are some of the staff’s favorite ways to enjoy cheese in the fall.

Cheese Pairings:

  • Cricketer’s Cheddar – Try it on some apple slices (maybe ones you’ve picked yourself on an orchard visit) with Eat This Spiced Caramel and Pear Jam. If fall were a flavor, this could be it.
  • Red Witch – Happy Halloween! With a red rind of paprika, this is the perfect cheese for the holiday and pairs wonderfully with Eat This Tomato and Jalapeno Marmalade.
  • Primo Sale with Pesto – Go Birds! Being Eagles green makes this a great tailgating treat. Crostinis and bruschetta add texture and richness.
  • Triple Crèmes  – Delice de Bourgogne is like cheese butter, so grab it along with a loaf of our homemade fall harvest bread and you’re all set. Or try Cambozola Black, a triple crème blue cheese, topped with fig spread.

Cooking Suggestions:

  • Gruyere macaroni and cheese – The ultimate comfort food. Add some butternut squash for a fun fall twist.
  • Provolone and mozzarella in baked ziti – There’s not much better than a fork full of ooey gooey cheesy baked pasta when the weather turns cooler. OK, a fresh baguette for soaking up all the sauce never hurts.
  • Rattlesnake Cheddar beer cheese dip – This makes a delicious dipping sauce for your Oktoberfest pretzels. But beware, this cheese brings the heat!  If you prefer a milder version, try blending with or substituting your favorite cheddar.
  • Goat Cheese – Its texture and flavor make it a wonderful cheese in desserts, from cheesecakes to fruit tarts.

Anyone else getting hungry?

Post your favorite pairing or dish or stop by the cheese counter to sample/discuss ours.
